The U.S. Department of Justice has opened a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell‘s conduct relating to renovation of the Fed’s headquarters, leading to a rare public statement in which Powell characterized the investigation as “a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than the preferences of the President.”

  2. Following a court decision affirming congressional representatives’ right to make unannounced visits to ICE detention centers, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem issued a memo requiring 7-days advance notice, blocking Minnesota congresswomen from entry to a Minneapolis detention center.

  3. The U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division will not investigate the fatal shooting of a U.S. citizen in Minneapolis by an ICE officer.
