Bad News First

The news can be overwhelming, but it can also inform, inspire, and focus our engagement. Let’s gird our loins and take a quick peek.
  1. Request (by me) to be petty in today’s edition granted (also by me): Forget about your problems on Earth. NASA is spending 30 billion to colonize the moon.

  2. Maybe they’ll pay for it with Trump coins?

  3. Seems like teleporting would be cheaper, but what do I know? Maybe ask this guy at FEMA.

But Here's the
Good News!

Encouraging developments don’t always make the headlines, But good news can provide us with hope and momentum, so let's take heart!
  1. In a Florida special election, a state house district in Florida flipped blue. And it happens to be the district in which Mar-a-Lago sits. And the president had bestowed his “Complete and Total Endorsement” on the Republican candidate. (Extra petty detail: The president voted by mail, even though he says that’s cheating.)

  2. Delta Air Lines is suspending its VIP service for members of Congress “due to the impact on resources” resulting from the partial government shutdown.

  3. Petty rants over. Thank you, I feel better. This is actually GREAT news: Saturday’s No Kings event is shaping up to be “the single largest day of domestic political protest in history.”

And Here's What You Can Do!

Even small efforts have the potential to ripple out in ways we don’t expect. Plus, doing good is good for you. Give it a try and see!
  1. The Brennan Center defends democracy, justice, and the Constitution. See what problems and solutions they’ve identified and consider supporting their work.

  2. Take a look at the candidates supported by Emily’s List, Run for Something, and Indivisible and throw a few bucks to someone in your jurisdiction, or who aligns with your goals.

  3. If attending a No Kings event isn’t an option for you, consider amplifying social media images of protests across the country by sharing them online. You can also attend this virtual, accessible rally.
