Three to Get Ready for March 2, 2026

Bad News First

The bad news is heavy today, but we owe it to our troops to bear witness.

  1. A week after the president fired the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the United States launched a major military attack on Iran, which the president announced via video from Mar-a-Lago. The president has indicated the conflict may go on for a period of weeks, and that he is willing to commit American ground troops.
  2. As the conflict intensifies and widens beyond Iran, the justifications for this military action have been criticized as being both vague and false.
  3. Five U.S. service members have died, with more casualties expected. Nonetheless the president believes “in the end, it’s going to be a great deal for the world.”

But Here’s the Good News

Let's not be consumed by the bad news Good things can and do happen at the very same time.

  1. Both houses of congress have taken up bipartisan war powers resolutions, which could serve to limit military action in Iran.
  2. A federal court in Oregon has ruled that warrantless arrest “dragnets” by ICE violate the U.S. Constitution and a court in Missouri has rejected administration efforts to end the SAVE program, which makes student loan repayment more affordable.
  3. Billboards in Pennsylvania are welcoming people to visit the website LeavingMaga.org, while billboards in Los Angeles point to ICE wasting tax dollars.

And Here’s What You Can Do

Even small efforts have the potential to ripple out in ways we don’t expect. Plus, doing good is good for you, I promise.

  1. TONIGHT: Listen in on a call with MoveOn.org to learn more about the conflict in Iran and how to oppose it.
  2. Brush up on the War Powers Resolution Act with a video or two.
  3. Sometimes the best you can do is keep calm and breathe on.
