Three to Get Ready for June 2, 2026

Bad News First

The news can be disheartening, but it can also inspire or focus our engagement. Let’s gird our loins and take a quick peek.

  1. Two million fewer children are enrolled in Medicaid, compared to before the president took office.
  2. The Zambian foreign affairs minister says the U.S. is leveraging health funding to gain access to Zambians’ protected health data and critical minerals. Meanwhile, young people in Kenya are protesting U.S. plans to treat U.S. citizens with Ebola in their country.
  3. The Pentagon has declared its press office a classified space, making it inaccessible to the press.

But Here’s the Good News

Encouraging developments don’t always make the headlines. But good things are happening!

  1. In a preliminary ruling, an appeals court found that military policy banning transgender service members is unconstitutional.
  2. 10.000 lawyers have left federal government service since 2025 and many are now working for Democratic state attorneys general and nonprofits suing the government.
  3. Perhaps not coincidentally, federal courts are becoming increasingly critical of government lawyers.

And Here’s What You Can Do

Even small efforts have the potential to ripple out in ways we don’t expect. Plus, doing good is good for you.

  1. Attend a VoteRiders virtual training, then volunteer to help voters navigate their local voter ID requirements.
  2. Use The Influenced Index to see how campaign contributions may be impacting the votes of your elected representatives in DC.
  3. See where state judges are up for election, so you can be ready to vote.
