Let’s go!

3 to Get Ready for February 6, 2026

Bad News First

The news can be disheartening, but it can also focus our engagement. Let’s take a (truly!) quick little peek.

  1. An anti-nuclear proliferation treaty between the United States and Russia has been allowed to expire.
  2. A new federal rule makes it much easier to fire federal employees without cause.
  3. The FDA has removed a web page warning the public about dangerous autism treatments and the CIA has ended publication of its World Factbook.

But Here’s the Good News

Encouraging developments don’t always make the headlines. But good things are happening every day, so buck up!

  1. Citizens and municipalities across the country are acting to oppose ICE detention centers, while state officials work to end cooperation with the agency.
  2. A federal judge has ruled that the IRS cannot share taxpayer data with ICE and another has rejected arguments that Elon Musk and two other former DOGE colleagues cannot be deposed in a case challenging the shutdown of USAID.
  3. The president’s call to nationalize elections was quickly rejected by the Senate Republican Majority Leader.

And Here’s What You Can Do

Even small efforts have the potential to ripple out in ways we don’t expect. Plus, doing good can be fun. Bring a friend!

  1. Contact your county’s party leadership to inquire about becoming a poll watcher in upcoming elections.
  2. Click through Red Wine & Blue to find a wide variety of opportunities and resources, including local groups, a digital Hype Squad, and weekly five-minute Easy A action ideas.
  3. We’ve got 50+ ideas in the 3 to Get Ready Action Library…and counting! If you’re finding these updates helpful, tell a friend and make them your democracy buddy.
