Three to Get Ready for May 21, 2026

Bad News First

The news can be disheartening, but it can also inspire or focus our engagement. Let’s gird our loins and take a quick peek.

  1. As if the “weaponization” slush fund weren’t bad enough, the president is also releasing himself from any potential claims for unpaid taxes.
  2. We have a new DOGE FAFO: Ebola.
  3. FDA lifted the ban on flavored vapes days after a cigarette maker donated $5 million to a pro-MAGA super PAC.

But Here’s the Good News

Encouraging developments don’t always make the headlines. But good things are happening!

  1. Swift slush fund backlash, including the resignation of a top Treasury attorney, a lawsuit filed by Capitol police officers, Senate and House action, and criticism from some key Republicans.
  2. The Senate finally came up with enough votes to advance an Iran War Powers resolution.
  3. A federal judge has ordered the White House to comply with the Presidential Records Act.

And Here’s What You Can Do

Even small efforts have the potential to ripple out in ways we don’t expect. Plus, doing good is good for you.

  1. Become a NICE Agent and benefit immigration bond funds.
  2. Depending on where you are, it’s time to VOTE, or check your registration, or study your upcoming ballot. DO ALL THE VOTING THINGS.
  3. Postcards to Swing States’ fall campaign is up and running. Sign up now so you have plenty of time to write your cards … or arrange a postcard party so friends can help you!
