Three to Get Ready for July 24, 2026

Bad News First

The news can be disheartening, but it can also focus our engagement. Let’s gird our loins and take a quick peek.

  1. Republican-leaning megadonors have already poured more than $1.6 billion into this election cycle.
  2. As measles and cyclospora outbreaks set new records, an FDA panel packed with peptide sellers voted in favor of allowing peptide sales, despite a lack of human subjects research.
  3. Tariffs are back.

But Here’s the Good News

Encouraging developments don’t always make the headlines. But good things are happening every day!

  1. A federal judge blocked DOJ access to Kentucky voter rolls, bringing its record to zero for 17 attempts. Meanwhile the president continues to pressure lawmakers to pass the SAVE Act, to the irritation of the Senate Majority Leader, who does not have the votes.
  2. At a truly embarrassing court appearance, the administration withdrew subpoenas seeking information from New York Times reporters on sources. The administration also abandoned a subpoena demanding a list of Jewish people on the University of Pennsylvania campus.
  3. Citizens Bank cut ties with ICE contractors, definitely for business reasons and not at all in response to months of protests. GOOD JOB!

And Here’s What You Can Do

Even small efforts have the potential to ripple out in ways we don’t expect. Plus, doing good is good for you. Give it a try!

  1. Twice so far, SAVE Act provisions were added to unrelated legislation passed by the House of Representatives. Let your reps know you know what’s up.
  2. Business owners have a role in protecting the rule of law in their communities. This toolkit explains.
  3. Looking for a way to implement Christian principles on the social justice front? Sojourners has resources and action items.
