Bad News First

The news can be disheartening, but it can also focus our engagement. Let’s take a quick little peek, just with the corner of one eye.

1. The president may not be a reliable narrator when it comes to Iran war talks. Also, somebody is making a lot of money.
2. This guy is now the Senate-confirmed Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
3. The U.S. government is paying a French company a billion dollars not to build offshore wind farms.

But Here’s the Good News

Encouraging developments don’t always make the headlines. But it turns out that principles do still matter. Yay, principles!

1. A federal judge has blocked the administration from detaining lawfully admitted refugees awaiting green cards for more than a year.
2. Twenty-four states have joined together to sue the EPA for repealing the finding that greenhouse gases threaten public health.
3. After declining the president’s invitation to celebrate July 4 in the United States, Pope Leo has accepted an invitation to virtually accept a Liberty Medal from the National Constitution Center on July 3. (P.S. The pope says universal healthcare is a moral imperative.)
