Three to Get Ready for July 8, 2026

Bad News First

Another day, another round of rants, threats, and state violence.

1. The “ceasefire” with Iran is over and the president is still mad at NATO for not joining the Iran war or giving him Greenland.
2. The administration is threating to withhold antiterrorism funds from the states unless they adopt his preferred election reforms and the Justice Department has sent letters to all 50 states and the District of Columbia, threatening to criminally prosecute election officials if noncitizens vote in upcoming elections.
3. ICE has again shot and killed an individual who allegedly tried to run agents over with a car. Meanwhile National Guard members on a domestic crime fighting patrol have shot and killed a man. PS The administration is rolling back gun regulations.

But Here’s the Good News

Judges keep on judging.

1. A federal judged has tossed out the president’s $3.8 billion defamation suit against the Washington Post.
2. Judges have quashed DOJ subpoenas for the personal information of Fulton County, Georgia 2020 election workers as well as subpoenas targeting Minneapolis officials. Petty bonus ruling: A three-judge panel denied a request to keep Trump’s name on the Kennedy Center, pending appeal.
3. A federal appeals court ruled that the administration could not fire 19 career intelligence officers in the CIA without giving them a chance to appeal or seek reassignment. The officers’ firings related to their DEI roles, not misconduct or performance.
