Bad News First
The news can be disheartening, but it can also inspire or focus our engagement. Let’s gird our loins and take a quick peek.
- New ICE deployments are coming, across 40 states. According to White House border czar Tom Homan, “You ain’t seen shit yet.”
- The federal Bureau of Land Management is rolling back protections for public lands, just as the Senate votes on a BLM nominee who has commented about selling them off.
- The Supreme Court’s shadow docket has flummoxed everyone from lower courts to Jamie Oliver, who attempts to explain the whole business.
But Here’s the Good News
Encouraging developments don’t always make the headlines. But good things are happening!
- Construction of a new section of border wall through a national park has been abandoned, following public outcry in Texas.
- Hakeem Jeffries hasn’t given up on Dems taking control of the House. Nor should we!
- Is it good news that ICE training, which had been shortened to 42 days, is going back up to 72 days?
And Here’s What You Can Do
Even small efforts have the potential to ripple out in ways we don’t expect. Plus, doing good is good for you.
- Join Red Wine and Blue on May 14 to amplify social media messages about protecting voting rights. They can also help you message your federal reps about the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
- Sign up to send mom-to-mom voter postcards with Mom Rising.
- Asking again: Do you want to be a poll worker?
