Three to Get Ready for April 25, 2026

Bad News First

The news can be disheartening, but it can also inspire or focus our engagement. Let’s gird our loins and take a quick peek.

  1. The GOP’s attempt to fund ICE without reforms via the reconciliation process has moved back to the House. (Here’s an explainer on this confounding process.)
  2. A panel of immigration judges has made it easier to deport DACA recipients and the Justice Department is ramping up denaturalization proceedings against hundreds of citizens.
  3. Firing squads are back, I guess.

But Here’s the Good News

Encouraging developments don’t always make the headlines. But good things are happening!

  1. An appeals court rejected the administration’s declaration of an “invasion” at the U.S.-Mexico border, potentially re-opening a path for asylum-seekers.
  2. Congressional appropriators aren’t supporting the administration’s latest attempt to defund libraries.
  3. Veterans protested the Iran war at the Capitol this week, resulting in arrests and viral videos.

And Here’s What You Can Do

Even small efforts have the potential to ripple out in ways we don’t expect. Plus, doing good is good for you. Try it!

  1. It’s time to sign the May Day pledge. Can you commit to no shopping on May 1? No work? No school? An action?
  2. Americans of Conscience issues a list of ten actions and good news every two weeks. Sign up for email delivery.
  3. Sign up for this May 11 webinar and learn how to engage young voters.
