Bad News First
The news can be disheartening, but it can also inspire or focus our engagement. Let’s gird our loins and take a quick peek.
- Both the House and Senate rejected resolutions attempting to rein in the use of military force in Iran.
- U.S. military service personnel stationed in the Middle East are sending home photos of meager unappetizing meals and delivery of care packages has been suspended.
- National Weather Service balloons are being launched later in the day than usual, delaying tornado watches.
But Here’s the Good News
Encouraging developments don’t always make the headlines. But good things are happening every day, so take heart!
- Over the objections of GOP leadership, a group of House Republicans joined House Democrats to pass a bill that would extend protections for Haitian immigrants.
- State good news roundup! The Montana Supreme Court held the state’s constitution protects trans individuals’ rights to update state-issued documents to reflect their gender identities. A county attorney in Minnesota filed criminal charges against an ICE officer. The California high court disbarred the attorney who devised the scheme to subvert the 2020 presidential election.
- A group of House Democrats has introduced articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
And Here’s What You Can Do
Even small efforts have the potential to ripple out in ways we don’t expect. Plus, doing good is good for you.
- Has your congressional representative co-signed the articles of impeachment against Pete Hegseth? If not, encourage them to do so.
- Join a one-hour virtual training on May 12 to learn about the Get Out the Vote postcard campaign and the research behind it.
- The Carbon Crew Project can help you develop a Personal Climate Action Plan. Why not check it out?
