Bad News First

The bad news can be pretty bad, but it can also inspire or focus our engagement, which is good!

1. Since the president took office, ICE has detained more than 6200 children in conditions likely to cause lasting harm.
2. A federal trial judge pursuing contempt proceedings after deportation flights proceeded in violation of his orders was blocked by the court of appeals.
3. A U.S. attorney moved to vacate the convictions of several Proud Boys previously sentenced to 10+ years in federal prison for their role in the January 6, 2021 insurrection. So they can own guns again. (Meanwhile another pardoned rioter is pleading guilty to child sexual abuse.)

But Here’s the Good News

Encouraging developments don’t always make the headlines. But look who's not giving up today!

1. Democrats are trying another War Powers Resolution. Will sending more ground troops to Iran weaken the resolve of Republicans?
2. Congressman Jamie Raskin has introduced a bill that would form a commission to study the president’s fitness for office, toward carrying out Section 4 of the 25th Amendment.
3. Pope Leo remains undeterred and unafraid.

And Here’s What You Can Do

Even small efforts have the potential to ripple out. Plus, doing good is good for you (and everyone you care about).

1. Republicans are attempting to fund ICE, CBP, and the Department of Defense via the reconciliation process. Time to call or email your representatives again and tell them what you’d rather that money go toward. Health care programs? Scientific research? Anything? Anyone? Bueller?
